Getting Started with MicClaw
Get up and running with MicClaw in just a few minutes. This guide covers installation, API key setup, and your first voice input.
1Install MicClaw
Download MicClaw for your platform:
Windows
- 1Download the .exe installer from the download page
- 2Run the installer and follow the setup wizard
- 3Launch MicClaw from the Start Menu
macOS
- 1Download the .dmg file from the download page
- 2Open the .dmg and drag MicClaw to Applications
- 3Launch MicClaw from Applications or Spotlight
Linux
- 1Download the .AppImage from the download page
- 2Make it executable: chmod +x MicClaw*.AppImage
- 3Run: ./MicClaw*.AppImage
2Configure API Keys
MicClaw uses a bring-your-own-key model. You'll need API keys from your chosen providers:
LLM Provider (Required)
Choose at least one LLM provider for AI conversations:
STT Provider (Optional, for Voice)
For voice input, configure a speech-to-text provider:
Privacy Note: Your API keys are stored locally on your device. They are never sent to MicClaw servers.
3Configure Settings
Open MicClaw and navigate to Settings to:
- Add your LLM API key and select your preferred model
- Add your STT API key if using voice input
- Set your preferred hotkey for voice input (default: Ctrl+Shift+V)
- Configure hotkey for Canvas capture (default: Ctrl+Shift+C)
- Choose your preferred language and theme
4Your First Voice Input
Try voice input in any application:
- 1
Open any text field
A browser, editor, chat app - anywhere you can type
- 2
Press the voice hotkey
Default: Ctrl + Shift + V
- 3
Speak naturally
Talk in your normal voice - no training needed
- 4
Press the hotkey again to stop
Your text will be inserted at the cursor position
